Privacy Policy
Effective date: February 26, 2026
Privacy at a Glance
Wiser Browser does not collect, store, or transmit your personal data. We do not track your browsing activity, sell your data, or build advertising profiles. The browser operates entirely on your device with no mandatory cloud services. This policy exists for transparency -- it is short because we collect almost nothing.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
Wiser Browser does not collect any of the following:
- Browsing history, URLs visited, or search queries
- Form data, passwords, or autofill information
- Cookie contents or site-specific data
- Device identifiers, hardware fingerprints, or advertising IDs
- Location data (GPS, Wi-Fi, or IP-based)
- Usage statistics, telemetry, or interaction metrics
- Crash reports (unless you explicitly choose to submit one)
All browsing data remains exclusively on your device unless you explicitly choose to use Wiser Sync.
2. Update Checks
Wiser Browser periodically checks for software updates by contacting Wiser's update server. These requests contain only your current browser version and your operating system type (e.g., "Linux x64"). No personally identifiable information is included in update requests, and no persistent identifier is assigned to your installation.
Update checks occur approximately once every 24 hours. You can disable automatic update checks in the browser settings.
3. Safe Browsing
Wiser Browser uses locally-stored databases to check URLs against known threats (phishing, malware). These databases are downloaded as part of the regular update process. No URLs or page content are transmitted to any server as part of the safe browsing check.
4. Wiser Sync
If you choose to enable Wiser Sync, your bookmarks, passwords, settings, and open tabs are synchronized between your devices. All synced data is encrypted end-to-end on your device before transmission using keys derived from your recovery phrase.
What the sync server stores
- Encrypted data blobs (unreadable without your recovery phrase)
- A pseudonymous user identifier derived from your public key (not linked to any personal information)
- Timestamps of sync operations (for conflict resolution)
What the sync server cannot access
- Your passwords, bookmarks, browsing history, or settings (all encrypted)
- Your recovery phrase or encryption keys
- Your identity, email address, or name
Wiser Sync is entirely optional. Disabling sync deletes all synced data from the server.
5. Crash Reports
If Wiser Browser crashes, it does not automatically send any information to any server. If you choose to submit a crash report manually, it will contain:
- The browser version and operating system
- A stack trace showing the technical cause of the crash
- Hardware information (CPU type, memory available)
Crash reports never contain browsing history, URLs, cookies, passwords, or any personal data. Submission is always opt-in and initiated by you.
6. Extensions
Extensions you install may have their own privacy policies and data practices. Wiser Browser does not monitor, restrict, or report which extensions you use. We recommend reviewing the privacy practices of any extension before installation.
Wiser Browser does not send a list of your installed extensions to any server.
7. Third-Party Services
Wiser Browser does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The browser makes no background connections to Google, Facebook, Amazon, or any other third party.
Websites you choose to visit have their own privacy practices and may collect data through cookies and other mechanisms. Wiser Browser provides tools to control this (cookie blocking, tracker blocking, Do Not Track, Global Privacy Control) but cannot control what websites do on their servers.
8. Data Retention
Since Wiser Browser does not collect personal data, there is no retention policy to define for most categories. For Wiser Sync users, encrypted sync data is retained on the server as long as sync is enabled. Disabling sync triggers deletion of all server-side data within 30 days.
9. Children's Privacy
Wiser Browser does not knowingly collect any information from children or any other users. Since no personal data is collected, there is no age-related data processing to address.
10. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will provide notice through the browser's update notes. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last updated.
Since our policy is based on the principle of minimal data collection, changes are unlikely to involve new data processing. Any change that introduces data collection will be clearly highlighted and will require your explicit consent.
